My first canvas. By sb, aged twentysomething

24 Jan

This is the first time i’ve ever used canvas. Yes, i’ve been to art school, but i avoided it there. I just didn’t feel ‘ready’, or maybe even particularly motivated to.

So how did this experiment in canvas turn out?

It was okay :o

I enjoy working with pencil (which looks a bit funny on canvas) – ah, maybe next time gloss the canvas so the surface is mo smooth

also scrunching or origami’ing the canvas is… err.. yeh

all in all – it’s an option. but it has it’s limits. I think i could sell it – it’s the kind of thing you could put on the wall with ease, more in alignment with what people would expect visual art to be like. But if i cut through this canvas, suspended it from the ceiling, soaked it in a bath of red dye…. well for me it would be way more exciting but perhaps for a buyer, not so much

at least i know now what to do – scissors, red dye and suspension!

being precious is the death of art!

First art splash of 2012 – BIG!

2 Jan

Last year i stepped more into making big art, and getting physical with painting – painting on the floor, dancing against it on the wall, using my hair and shoulders…

This year it’s all about larger canvases. what i do is vivacious, vital and bold – it requires space to make an impact, and i want a bigger dance floor.

So to start things off, here’s a piece i made in the week after xmas -

Here’s to big big bigger things in 2012 xo

‘nutha art flash :)

20 Oct

My pal Selina gave herself the gift of creating with wild abandon, and shared her process in a very sweet video here:

http://www.madeinthemoment.com/2011/10/juicy-tuesday-21-dont-wait-until-tomorrow-to-start-living-the-life-you-want/

It inspired me to make a piece and i hope after you watch the video it inspires you too to take some time out to have fun with whatever materials you have available :)

the peace of art, the love of art (for any creative person)

19 Oct

THE LOVE OF ART

art stems from love

art is a process of unfolding love energy out whether that’s thru words, movement, using materials or instruments

art feels GOOD to do. it feels flippin good to make art. make art/make love

art is unlimited, limited only by your own personal preference should you chooset give them to yourself

art is being present in the moment bathed in god/spirit – light

making art energises you, heightens yr senses, clears yr mind. just like a good work out session.

‘making art’ invites you to have a fabulous experience, to enjoy yourself. it’s an invitation to let loose and feel free. the canvas, the empty blog post, the dance floor, the stage, the music room are all invitations to have fun & play

making art is your uncurtailed, free, OWN space to do wtf you want and let inspiration have its way with you. if you feel like you have to colour within the lines in other areas of your life, art says ‘you get to let loose here!’

you’ll know when you’re ‘done’. you’ll feel that contentment. you’ll have rode inspiration til you feel full and ready to move on. that can be ten minutes. you can have art quickies.

art feels like catching a wave, galloping on a horse, being vitally alive, present and free.

if you’re doing something creative/making ‘art’ and it doesn’t feel this epic, then it’s not art.

October art flash

17 Oct

It has indeed been quiet on this here blog for a while – i am surprised that the last post was back in August. I am working on a *secret* blog at the moment which will be turned into a book at the end of the year, less about art and more about ideas/writing. it’s a work in progress as all things are, but i’m proud of what’s been coming out.

in the meantime, here’s the latest visuals from Haus of S

Main art project for August ’11 complete!

16 Aug

I’ve been working on a large (erm, about as big as a single bed) piece of art since the start of the month which completed yesterday. It’s been immersive, exploratory and fun. Here’s the pick of the top images to come out of it:

the next step is to use it in some kind of fashion shoot… if anyone has a spare studio … ;)
