So you get an idea of who I am, here’s my answers to the ‘Proust Questionnaire’ from Vanity Fair:

What is your current state of mind?
Lively. I’m listening to a bonkers Tropicalia mix by Beck and it sounds like a cross between Can and Japanese lounge singers, it’s definately doing things to my creative grey matter

What is your greatest extravagance?
i have 15 pairs of sunglasses. i have been known to dance very extravagantly when given a space on stage

What is your greatest fear?
boredom

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
lack of initiative, inability to question norms, inability to connect the dots, and closed mindedness. ok so that’s four…

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
conscious charm. y’know, people who deliberately/knowingly charm, or have groomed themselves to charm others. cuz it’s fake. I’m not big on fake. unless it’s earnest fake (Eurovision Song Contest, for example). i love people who are authentically charming and who aren’t aware of it

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
impatience

What is the quality you most like in a man?
that unconscious charm thing ha ha. – a lack of self-consciousness, actually. when i see guys stupidly dancing with toddlers at festivals or wedding receptions i really love that, that’s charming

What is the quality you most like in a woman?
fearlessness and self-knowledge

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
‘but’. ‘i feel’.

Which talent would you most like to have?
song-writing. seriously. i can play guitar and drums but i can’t write music to save my life. oh, well, maybe if you held a gun to my head i would but it’s not a natural thing for me, i get a mental block about it.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
the sun, expending energy, and i feel like music will always be a constant companion

Where would you like to live?
it’s probably not as nice in real life (or maybe it is) but I remember watching The OC and thinking, oooh I want a white modern house with a pool overlooking the sea…. maybe closer to LA . Failing that, every time I watch ’51 first dates’ I think woah it would be awesome to live in Hawaii, in a treehouse, making art, with a guy who works with penguins, near the sea

What is your favorite occupation?
discovering. and expressing myself

What is your most treasured possession?
i have this notebook i’ve used to jot down epiphanies/insights, as well as nice stuff people have said about my work, and motivating slogans. If i ever feel a little crummy, i just dip into this book and it reminds me of my ‘power’ so to speak

Who are your favorite writers?
Danielle LaPorte always triggers my thoughts, Ben Zander is cool, I dig Rainer Maria Rilke and Thoreau, though in honesty I haven’t been reading much fiction this year

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
Dogboy. You haven’t heard of Dogboy? He built a giant kennel in the woods and loves velcro.

I did a monologue from Saint Joan a couple of years ago which resonated big time, so maybe Joan of Arc.

Patrick Jane from the Mentalist, although he’s more of a kindred spirit than hero

And the Jedi’s of course

Who are your heroes in real life?
Anyone on a self-activated quest for their own authenticity, and those who live it when they discover it

What do you most value in your friends?
optimism, perspective, and energy

What is your most marked characteristic?
i create a lot of stuff, i’m always ‘up to something’

How would you like to die?
fulfilled

What is your motto?

‘Onwards!’
